I think the residents of Solitude would disagree. I seem to remember Heir Uriam Kador launching an unprovoked attack on the Federation several years ago that was badly botched and resulted in the Heir losing what was left of his military forces by order of the Empress.
Although Kador was acting without official sanction from the throne you can't simply dismiss the invasion as if it never happened. This wasn't a case of a single ship commander going rogue; it was a Royal Heir unleashing the full might of his considerable military forces against the Gallente. In my mind that qualifies as an imperial invasion force launched against a CONCORD signatory.

Yes, I do Pilot Mithra since Uriam Kador is a Royal Heir who at the time of his incursion controlled vast swaths of space, billions of serfs and a significant military force. Heirs speak and act with the authority of the throne within their domains, correct? Their authority derives directly from the divinely chosen emperor or empress, right? How can you attempt to equate the acts of someone so powerful as not representing the Empire?
Again, this is a Royal Heir we're talking about, not some "commoner" low-level bureaucrat or rogue starship commander. I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused. |

So, if Kador had succeeded in his invasion he'd have claimed the spoils of his victory in the name of House Kador and not for the Empire?
Let's take another example; CVA. They're not officially sanctioned by the throne either but, the systems they control they've claimed in the name of the Empire. As far as I know the throne hasn't turned down any of that real estate and at least tacitly approves of CVA's actions. CVA is a simple capsuleer-run corporation; a band of commoners who pledge fealty to the Empire. If they can be seen as acting in service to and in furtherance of imperial interests how could you not say the same of a Royal Heir from one of the most traditionalist and respected families in the Empire, a man whose ancestors sat on the throne, a man who has direct access to the Empress?
Uriam Kador is also known as a philosopher and scholar, a deep thinker not prone to rash acts. He knew quite well what he wanted to accomplish and the potential negative consequences of his actions. I can't believe that such a man would act as he did for the base motive of personal gain. He wanted to seize that territory for the Empire.

That is the difference.
The operative word in that sentence is yet. Even the Sanmatar is accountable to those whom he leads.
I do admit, however, that I don't understand why the Tribal Council has been so silent on this matter or, why there's been little public demand for answers and accountability. I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused. |

I came to a conclusion quite some time ago regarding what would happen if the imperials attempted another invasion of our worlds. I still believe this to be the case.
Assuming no outside intervention (assistance from the Federation, CONCORD, etc.) it's certain that the numerical advantage held by the Amarr military would overrun Republic forces. How long that would take I have no way of predicting but, it would happen. Given that we have absolutely no intention of ever living as slaves again we'd likely fight to the very last person, practice a scorched earth policy of destroying any and everything of value, carry out hit and run harassment raids, suicide attacks, etc. We'd fight an asymmetrical, long-term guerrilla war on a scale never seen before. In short, we'd do everything in our power to make "Amarr Victor" so costly and weaken the Empire to such an extent that one of two scenarios would occur:
- the massive drain on resources would collapse their economy leading to internal upheaval and eventually a civil war that would topple the Empire from within or,
- the massive long-term commitment of personnel and equipment needed to secure the newly acquired Matari worlds would drain resources and stretch the imperial military so thinly that the Empire would be vulnerable to invasion by another sovereign entity (the Federation) or, to organized terrorist/criminal enterprises (Blood Raiders, Sansha, or Angels). Unable to withstand attacks on multiple fronts the Empire would be destroyed from without.
Either way the Empire would be destroyed along with the Republic. It's the old doctrine of mutually assured destruction. I rather doubt the (sane) citizens of Amarr are willing to pay this price. I know that personally I'd rather live so long as it doesn't involve me (and 9 future generations of Rellas) being subservient to Jamyl and her deity. In the end we can either find a way to move forward and live together in some kind of stable situation or, die together. Hopefully leaders on all sides will reach this conclusion and stop this madness.

Silas Vitalia wrote: And I thought the EoM were the only apocalyptic-themed cult around these days! You surprise me with such a prophecy of doom-and-gloom.
I'm sure the Udorians, or the Earlurians, or the NiKunni, or even the Khanid felt their worlds would come to and end as well, or perhaps that they'd "go out fighting."
Rubbish.
False comparison, Vitalia, and you know it. I'm not calling for the destruction of humanity as the EoM does. I'm not calling for the destruction of the Empire. I pointed out a likely outcome should the Amarr attack us. I'm stating the fact that we will never again be held captive by Amarr or, anyone else. The majority of us prefer death to enslavement. You're also wrong to compare us to those unfortunates who happened to be early victims of the imperials. The circumstances are totally different.
I assure you most emphatically that we will not bow before your Empire. We'll die fighting to the last or take our own lives before we'd let that happen.
I'd also caution you not to be so smug and remind you that you're considered a heretical dog in the eyes of the Empire; something to be reclaimed to the "true faith" or, put down. I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused. |

TomHorn wrote:Reclaiming is part of the Amarr religion, part of their culture. Pro reclaiming forces are gathering. I would think there must be much more pro reclaiming than anti within the Empire.
The nations that are most anti reclaiming they are at war with, so why not re start. Bring in a work force of slaves, the best of which could be trained into Kameiras the elite fighting force of slaves in the Empire. Im sure there would also be economic gains to be had.
If the reclaiming is so wonderful, pilot, why not just submit yourself and your kin to the imperials right now? There's nothing stopping you from doing so.
Secondly, do you truly believe that the Amarr would simply stop with the Minmatar?
Before you start with the whole argument about the Amarr not attacking the State because you're currently trading partners and allied in the CONCORD sanctioned phony wars, I'd remind you of your own words; "Reclaiming is part of the Amarr religion, part of their culture." This is quite true. So, what do you think is more important to them? Your treaties or their scriptures and several millennia of tradition?
It would be most ironic if what you propose came to pass; that at some point in the distant future vast armies of Matari slave/soldiers are used by the imperials to overrun the State and show you firsthand the benefits of reclamation. I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused. |

Shintoko Akahoshi wrote: Are you saying he doesn't have a point, Starfire?
Not to speak for Ava but in my opinion he has no point. He's made a biased, self-serving, overly broad generalization and attempted to pass it off as fact. I have no idea who Shutaq knows or associates with but, the vast majority of the pilots that I'm personally acquainted with have quite strong morals and strive to behave in ways that benefit others beyond themselves.
Perhaps you should both broaden your circles of friends and/or re-evaluate your perceptions if you see the majority of people as evil. I may be sarcastic, pessimistic and jaded but, even I can still see the good that exists in most people, including capsuleers. I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused. |

I suppose you missed the part where I plainly stated that I wasn't speaking for Ava, Pilot Mintor? Or, where I said that I (a personal pronoun denoting myself, Anabella Rella) didn't associate with criminals?
Although it should go without saying, apparently some need the standard IGS disclaimer; opinions expressed in my posts are mine solely. I don't speak officially for any other individual or organization.

You're seriously going to write off an entire nation based upon the IGS posts of two people? That's your prerogative of course but, isn't that the very definition of prejudice? If I were to take your stance I'd go on a murderous rampage in the Empire or Mandate based on the prattle posted by Noh, Blake or Luftschreck. I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused. |
